What are mites?
Mites are microscopic arthropods related to ticks and spiders. The most common types found in Dubai include:
- Mites– They live in mattresses, bedding and rugs. Main cause of internal allergies.
- Clover mites– often found crawling around windows and walls, especially during the colder season.
- Birds or rodents– may infest homes if birds or rodents nest nearby.
- The storage mite– found in foods stored as grains and cereals.
Mites infestation signs
Since mites are very small, identifying them can be difficult. However, the signs include:
- Inexplicable irritation of skin or rash
- Symptoms of allergy (sneezing, aqueous eyes, cough)
- Tracking sensations, especially at night
- Small brown-brown points on bedding or walls
